There are basicallly 2 types of choices when you're looking for new flooring or surfaces for you home-

You can go with a big box store. Many people assume that this is automatically going to be the cheapest route. Although the big chains do offer good deals on some items, on others they can be ridiculously overpriced. As far as labor we have heard too many horror stories about shoddy workmanship, difficulty in scheduling etc. To top it off, just getting anyone to help you and spend some time with you so you can make an educated decision while picking out materials can be nearly impossible. So overall, these stores promise great deals but in the end are rarely any less expensive, and the process itself is usually stressful and confusing.

Then there are the local independant dealers. There are many good, reputable dealers in the Portland area. You can get a wide selection of goods and expert help. Unfortunately they can be quite expensive. These dealers generally have very large showrooms which are expensive to lease and maintain. They have large staffs and commissioned sales people and those salaries must be built into the costs.

Then there is A-1... we don't have a huge showroom, or a large staff and no one is on commission. We buy are materials from the same manufacturers as everyone else, but we are simply able to mark our products up less because we don't have an enormous overhead to maintain.  We do have a wide selection in our showroom, and our staff has a combined 55 years of experience in the flooring industry. We do offer high quality installation at a reasonable price. We do give individual attention. We take a great deal of the stress out of the process by being very involved and communicative.
